BagelFest West Exhibitor Spotlight: Uncle Stevey’s Bagels
Uncle Stevey’s Bagels in El Segundo stands out in a sea of West Coast bakeries by refusing to play by the rules of traditional New York or California bagel making. Instead, the shop takes inspiration from Maine, aiming to perfect an East Coast style on the West Coast.
One of the most remarkable features at Uncle Stevey’s is its unconventional approach to ingredients. Unlike the classic everything bagel, garlic and onion are swapped out for fennel seed, and the floral note of loroco—a flower native to South America—makes a surprising appearance. Rather than follow the trend of cheddar jalapeño, they serve their own signature cheddar hot honey variety.
Uncle Stevey’s manages to deliver bagels that are genuinely flavorful and distinctive. They prove that breaking the mold can lead to delicious results, offering a fresh perspective on what a great bagel can be when tradition is thoughtfully reimagined.
