What began as a small gathering of 300 bagel enthusiasts in Bushwick in 2019 has grown into the premiere trade and consumer show for the bagel industry, attracting thousands of attendees and propelling bagel shops to significant achievements, including major funding and expansion.

The Faces Behind BagelFest
Sam Silverman
Founder & Bagel Ambassador
From his earliest memory of savoring a bagel with cream cheese, Sam Silverman was destined to become the "Bagel Ambassador," a title bestowed upon him by the city's bagel shops in recognition of his love and tireless advocacy for this iconic food.
While thriving in the corporate world, Sam experienced an epiphany in 2017: despite New York City being the home of the bagel, and having a festival for every food and culture imaginable, it had never held a bagel festival.
With this realization, Sam dove headfirst into the world of bagels and the artisans who make them, and led to the creation of BagelFest. Under Sam’s leadership, BagelFest has flourished into a must-attend event, attracting dozens of exhibitors and sponsors and thousands of attendees—from industry insiders to casual foodies, all united in their passion for bagels.
In 2022, Sam embraced his passion fully and left the corporate world to launch BagelUp, a venture that not only produces BagelFest but also offers a variety of bagel-centric immersive experiences like Hands-on Bagel Baking Classes and NYC Bagel Tours throughout the year.
Sam is active on Instagram and TikTok, where he highlights the vibrant personalities and businesses within the bagel community. His extensive contributions to bagel culture earned him recognition as one of Brooklyn’s 50 Most Fascinating People by Brooklyn Magazine.
When he’s not busy planning BagelFest or teaching others about the art of bagel making, Sam enjoys his all-time favorite snack: an everything bagel with scallion cream cheese - always fresh, never toasted.
